Angela F. Pezzorello

Angela F. Pezzorello, age 96, formerly of 604 Mohawk Street, her family homestead, and more recently a resident of St. Joseph Nursing Home, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the facility. Born in Utica on October 4, 1912, Angela was the daughter of the late Francesco and Marie Domenica “Ann” (Fiore) Pezzorello. She earned her high school equivalency diploma in her 50’s and then attended the Utica School of Commerce where she studied shorthand and typing. For many years, Angela was employed as a store clerk at Neisner’s and Berger’s, and for several years she worked for the Utica City Election Polls, until her health declined. She treasured her family above all else and was always ready to lend a hand whenever she was needed. She cared for her parents and her siblings, nurtured her nieces and nephews, and babysat for her great-nieces and nephews, and her great-great-nieces and nephew. Many generations of loved ones knew her kind-hearted ways. She found much joy in gardening, from her flower garden to her favorite vegetable garden. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Angela was devoted to her Catholic faith and was honored when she met the Most Rev. Bishop Robert Cunningham as he blessed her upon his visit to the St. Joseph Nursing Home. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Angela is survived by her sister, Anna Marie Fiorile of Utica; a special niece, Mrs. Rose DeSantis, with whom she resided for the last several years; and her family, Robert DeSantis, Richard DeSantis, who was Angela’s godson, Mary Elena and Philip Sinnott and their children, Alexis, Philip and his friend, MaryAnn Talento, Erica Sinnott, and Loretta and Justin Murray, all of Utica; her niece, Anna Maria Cortese and her family, Jeanine and Adam Stevens, Patricia and Eugene Klein, and Carrie Ann Klein, all of Utica; her nephew, Vincent Fiorile of Utica; Joe and Sandie Fiorile of Saranac Lake and their family, Joseph Fiorile, and Gina Fiorile; her nephew, Frank and Diane Schiro of PA, and Carmella Schiro of Rome, who was Angela’s goddaughter; her sister-in-law, Angeline Pezzorello of AZ and her family, Frank and Toni Pezzorello and their family, Frank and Jessica Pezzorello and their family, Taylor and Madden; her nephew, Nick and Rhonda Pezzorello and family, Tiffany and A.J.; Gina and Clint Kirk; and Angela’s godson, Vincent and Lillian Pezzorello. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose M. Pezzorello, Elena “Lena” Carcone, and Theresa Schiro; her brothers, Vincent, Gerard, Frank, and Anthony Pezzorello; and her in-laws, Pasquale R. “Pat” Fiorile, and Angelo Schiro. The family extends sincere appreciation to the religious, nursing and administrative staffs of the St. Joseph Nursing Home who brought much joy to Angela’s life during the last few weeks; and Dr. Joseph Raj, Angela’s longtime physician from the Slocum-Dickson Medical Group. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Angela’s funeral service will commence on Saturday at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
