Angela Marie (Rotundo) DeLeo

Angela Marie (Rotundo) DeLeo, age 94, of Deerfield, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with her loving family by her bedside, after a long, happy and prosperous life. Angela was born in Rochester on March 15, 1918, the daughter of the late Francesco and Felicia (Paladino) Rotundo. She was raised and educated in Rochester and attended local schools there. On May 10, 1941, Angela was wed to Andrea DeLeo, and the two of them enjoyed a life together for almost forty years, dedicated to raising their family, until Andrea’s passing on July 27, 1979. A hardworking and focused woman, Angela held employment with numerous entities, including: General Electric, G.B. Millwork, Lerner Shops, E. Cramer & Son, and finally at the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center where she worked as a Mental Hygiene Therapy Aide, the position from which she retired. Angela was a loyal and loving mother, friend, worker and volunteer. She spent the many years of her married life involved in her children’s school activities as a member of the Blessed Sacrament PTA, Mother’s Club and Holy Rosary Altar Society. Giving and caring by nature, she also worked tirelessly as a Brownie Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader and 4-H Club Leader. As a selfless member of her community, Angela was a member of the Sons of Italy and a princess of the Daughters of the Nile, Uarda Temple No. 24. She also volunteered in local politics as a Democratic Committee chairwoman for many years. In her leisure time, Angela loved to sew, enjoyed playing cards, especially Canasta, and was a great bowler. Angela will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted grandson, James Italiano, who was her long-time caregiver; her daughter, Elaine Italiano; her grandsons, Salvatore Italiano and Rocco and Samantha Italiano; and her great-granddaughter Melaina. She was predeceased by her sister, Aida Rotundo; and her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Angela Rotundo. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Angela’s many friends, Phyllis Patterson, Deanna Guidera, Bill and Arlene Mason, Lisa and Joe Spina, Bill and Barb, Pat Francis, Lee Penner, Albert Kelsey, Janet Pflanz, Bill Harf, Lucille Bonanza and Family, and Father Mosca. Their compassion, support, and sincerity was truly inspirational. A heartfelt thank you is to be extended to the dedicated and empathetic staffs of the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. and Chenango Valley Crematorium. The true dedication of Angela’s family was shown when they gathered intimately to send her off. In a heartfelt and touching ceremony, they bid their farewells as she left this life to begin her spiritual journey home.
