Angel "Antonio" "Cuco" Mejias-Colon

UTICA – Angel “Antonio” “Cuco” Mejias-Colon, age 64, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, in the comfort and dignity of his home after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Born in Yonkers, NY, on May 7, 1961, Angel was the son of Angel Mejias-Colon and the late Rita Colon. He spent his formative years in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and after graduating from high school, he attended vocational school, specializing in carpentry. In his twenties, he joined his family in relocating to Utica. On November 27, 1979, he married the former Maria Acevedo. Their union was blessed with seven children. Angel had a lifelong desire to learn and continually honed his craft as a local mechanic. In 2000, he returned to Puerto Rico to reconnect with loved ones and to fulfill a personal dream of building a home there—one that stood as a testament to his hard work and dedication. In 2019, he returned to Utica, once again placing family at the center of his life. Angel was a kind, compassionate, and devoted father who led by example, always ensuring his family was cared for—providing not only the essentials of food and shelter, but also the unwavering security of his love and presence. Angel had a special love for animals, especially his faithful dogs, cherished cats, and vibrant birds. He treasured lively gatherings where family and friends came together to celebrate, finding his greatest joy in the company of those he loved. Angel’s happiness was rooted in these moments of connection, right up until the very end. Beyond his devotion to family, he enjoyed building model cars, tinkering with automobiles, tending to his garden filled with flowers and vegetables, and working patiently on puzzles. He is survived by his father, Angel Mejias-Colon and his wife Eneida Rentas; wife, Maria Acevedo; daughters and their significant others, Legna Mejias and Wilfredo Muniz, and twins Tania Mejias and James Olds, and Dania Mejias and Alfonso Jefferson; and sons and their significant others, Omar Mejias and Vicky Sanchez, Jomar Mejias and Miosotis Diaz, and Christian Mejias and Sonya Torres. He cherished the memory of his son, Joshian Joel Mejias, who passed away on July 27, 2013. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Natasha, Nairis, Devin, Ariell, Jayrra, Ja’Nia, Daryana, Dangelyz, Kimberly, Sophia, Nayeli, Jennymar, Miosotis, Delianis, Christian, and Nineyhska (Christal); great-granddaughter, Nalaia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ramona Mejias-Colon, Jinette and Joey Rodriguez, Anixa and Carlos Giron, Arlene and Danny “Chube” Rubio, and Yanis and Jose Terron; and brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Annma Negron. He was predeceased by his mother, Rita Colon; and brother, Luis Rivera. Additionally, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; his companion, Milva Colon-Torres, and pet, Ebony Mejias, who were by his side the last 2 years of his life; and many special friends. A thank you is extended to Angel’s granddaughter, Nairis Muniz, for her exceptional caring heart in tending to her grandfather’s needs. Gratitude is also extended to Dr. Kenneth Visalli and his nurse, Bedyth Cepeda and Upstate UR Medicine liver cancer team for their care and compassion, and to his sister-in-law, Tamara Rodriguez for being there for Cuco and the family. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street, corner of Hammond Ave. Angel’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
