Anastasia "Ana" Torres

Mrs. Anastasia “Ana” Torres, age 75, of North Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 8, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of her family by her side. Born in Puerto Rico on April 15, 1935, Anastasia is the daughter of Gloria Maria Torres and the late Jose Martinez Torres. She was raised and educated in Puerto Rico. Ana took pride in being the matriarch of her family, and providing for them was her priority in life. She had a generous soul that led her to care for anyone in need in whatever capacity she could help. Talented at crocheting, she conceived designs in her mind and her hands created those beautiful articles for all to enjoy. Ana was devoted to her Catholic faith, often praying the rosary three times a day, and making her devotions to her patron saints, Mother Theresa and Padre Pio. She was a communicant of Historic Old St. John’s Church. Ana is survived by her daughters, Ana Gloria Perez of FL, and Wanda Perez of Utica; her sons and daughters-in-law, John and Rosa Perez of Utica, Gregorio, Jr. and Maria Perez of Buffalo, and Chan Perez of Utica; many grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her sisters and brothers-in-law, Millie and Tony Vazquez, Carmin and Randall Sears, Virgen and Aurelio Martinez, and Blanca and Martin Agosto, all of FL, and Gladys Torres of VA; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jose and Maria Torres, and Jesus Crucita Torres, all of FL, and Raymond and Carmen Torres, and Luis and Amparo Torres, all of Puerto Rico; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws; and her many dear and cherished friends. The family expresses sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Intensive Care Unit for the care and attention given to Ana and her family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to Historic Old St. John’s Church in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Ana’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday evening at 7:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place in the Cementerio La Piedad in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
