Amelia J. "Molly" Cortese

Mrs. Amelia J. “Molly” (Giancotti) Cortese, age 94, formerly of Utica, and currently residing in Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008 in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Born in Utica on August 5, 1913, Amelia was the daughter of the late John and Victoria (Franco) Giancotti. She was raised and educated locally. On October 24, 1940 she was joined by the vows of marriage to Alfred N. “Fred” Cortese with whom she shared 60 years of commitment and loving devotion prior to his passing on March 5, 2001. For many years, Molly was employed by the Oneita Knitting Mills. Graced with a sweet personality, she always had a smile on her face. As a loving matriarch, she held her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a blessing which brought much joy to her life. Many family members and friends, as well as hospital patients, were fortunate to receive a ‘Molly’ afghan which she spent countless hours crocheting, as one of her favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed spending time during the summer at the St. Lawrence River. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Molly is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Dennis Solan of Cape Canaveral, FL. She held close to her heart the memory of her infant twin sons, Alfred Cortese and Frank Cortese, who preceded her in death. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Denise and Stephen Romanow, Alfred and Karen Solan, Michele and Michael North, and Jennifer and Aaron Harvill; her great-grandchildren, Matt, Stephanie, A.J., Beth, and Missy; Samantha, Kelsey, Danny, Peter, and Joey; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Rose and Peter Annuich, Nettie and Fred Franchina, Anthony “Cory” Cortese, and Mary Giancotti; and her dear and special friend, Anna Madden, who was like a daughter. She was predeceased by 5 sisters, 2 brothers, and several in-laws. The family is grateful to Dr. Vincent Marino and the staff of Hospice of Health First in Florida for their compassion and care. Visitation will be held Sunday (today) from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Molly’s honor to Hospice of Health First of Florida; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Molly’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in New Hartford where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
