Amelia E. "Meel" Maynard

Mrs. Amelia E. “Meel” Maynard, age 53, currently of Ilion, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Little Falls Hospital. Born in Utica on January 20, 1955, Amelia was raised and educated locally. On August 1, 1998 she married Eugene “Geno” Smith. The couple enjoyed spending time together and the common bonds which made them soul mates. Meel enjoyed various work pursuits during the years including her employment at the Mohawk Valley Work Shop, LCMG, Inc., and her current vocation as seamstress for Janine King Designs of Utica, a company which specializes in fine tapestry handbags and accessories. A talented and creative woman, Meel had vision and imagination which were aspects of her character that made her such a creative soul. Although she had many hopes and dreams, she displayed patience and perseverance, and was able to deliver her message with such style. She loved music, especially rhythm & blues, and Motown, an era that her children also appreciated. She was always concerned about others and did not discriminate in her selfless actions and good will. She shared her honest views to improve and enhance relationships. She was a treasure to her loved ones who hold dear her legacy and the precious moments and memories they shared. She enjoyed bargain shopping and often made special purchases for friends and loved ones with generosity and abundance. She practiced her spirituality in kindness and good deeds. Amelia is survived by her husband, Geno; her children, Lisa Cappelli, Wynter Alfred, Michele G. Cappelli, John LaClair and Leelo Finnerty, Todd LaClair, and James LaClair; her grandchildren, Zamantha and Angelo; Brittany, Dante, and Christopher; and her great-grandchild, Kaiden. Survivors also include her sister, Jacqueline (Szablak) Cicigline; her brother, Joseph Maynard; her nieces and nephews, including John, Kelly, and Jodi Becker; great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins; her mother-in-law, Linda Given; her in-laws, Patrick and Teri Smith and their children Robecca, Joseph, and Taylor; Crystal and Tim Harriman and their children Matthew, and Lilly; and her long time and loyal friend, Mary Rende. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00-3:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Amelia’s Celebration of Life which will commence on Sunday at 3:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Christine Abbass, Certified Celebrant, officiating.
