Alice M. (Baksa) Moore

UTICA – Alice M. (Baksa) Moore, age 84, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, in the comfort and dignity of her home. Born in Cassville, NY, on February 15, 1941, Alice was the daughter of the late Frank and Alice M. (Clancey) Baksa. She was raised and educated in her hometown. Alice was previously married to Edwin E. Crandall, and from that union came the blessings of their five children. Later, she found love again and married James “Jimmy” Moore, who brought love, respect, and laughter into their home, creating a deeply cherished bond. A memorable man, Jimmy predeceased Alice more than 20 years ago. Alice was a nurse's aide for many years at Charles T. Sitrin Nursing Home, where her compassion and empathy touched the lives of countless residents. After retiring from caring for others, she established the Crystal Lounge on Lafayette Street, where she continued to create a welcoming, warm environment as a natural hostess and respected proprietor. She was one-of-a-kind and a kindred spirit to her patrons. The next phase of her life was devoted to caring for her family, where she found her greatest joy in watching over her beloved great-grandchildren. In Alice’s home, the AMC channel was on daily—she loved her westerns. When time allowed, she could be found working through her word search book or taking a daily walk around the block with friends, a way to change the venue of her day. Memorable will be the glimpses of her apartment that had photos and many types of memorabilia on display, as if it were a museum. The effect that it brought to anyone’s heart would bound to bring a smile to your face. Her specialty was homemade sauce ladled over angel hair pasta, often paired with whatever meat she felt inspired to make. No one could ever duplicate that delicious sauce! That was her of showing her love and gathering everyone together. Many people hope that, at the time of their passing, their greatest accomplishments will be those of being the best parent and grandparent they could possibly be. To her family, she was a devoted mother and a wonderful Grandma Alice—affectionately known as “Gammer” —and these titles brought her the greatest pride. She remained wonderfully independent and did things on her own terms. Quick-witted and outspoken, she always had something to say and spoke her truth— even if you were standing right there! Alice was a caring soul, always wanting to be of help to others. This trait kept her spirit alive, and her soul may now be at rest, for she did things on her own terms. Alice is survived by her children, twins, Deborah “Debbie” McCovery (and the late Charles McCovery), and Edwin E. Crandall, and Ruthann Price and Tony Joseph. She treasured the memory of the sons who preceded her, Raymond L. Crandall, and Richard E. Crandall, Sr.; as well as her son-in-law, Eulas Price. Additionally, she leaves a daughter-in-law, Grechen Crandall. Left to carry on her memory are a multitude of grandchildren, as well as a host of great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Alice was blessed to be cared for by her two “Tallulahs”—her granddaughter Nicole and her great-granddaughter Johnique—with her daughter Debbie as an additional treasure. They attended to her every need with respect and love until the very end. Alice was born one of seven children, all of whom preceded her: Jack, Betty, Joyce, Wava, William, and Bonnie. She will be remembered by her goddaughter, Julie Jury-Kozlowski; and by her dear friend and neighbor, Mae Parker. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. A blessing will be bestowed, and an invitation to offer words of kindness and honesty regarding Alice’s life will be welcomed.
