Alexis Rose Sinnott

Miss Alexis Rose Sinnott, age 28, became a Guardian Angel to her family and loved ones on Friday, August 9, 2013 as she passed in the comfort of her home. Born in Utica on September 26, 1984, Alexis was the ‘miracle child’ of Philip S. and Mary Elena (DeSantis) Sinnott. A strong presence and a blessing to her entire family, she taught her loved ones never to take for granted the simple pleasures and little joys of life. Although she was never able to speak verbally, she communicated in her own language. She comforted people with her soulful smile, peaceful persona, and loving “Lexy-isms.”She was an inspiration to all who were a part of her life. To her siblings, Lexy was always the “big sister” and “Pooh Bear,” an endearing nickname evoked from her affection for Winnie-the-Pooh and her collection of stuffed animals that surrounded her with softness and security. Lexy was a twin and was able to communicate with her twin sister Loretta through their own special bond. Her brother Philip entertained her with hugs and kisses and untold whispers in her ears. Her sister Erica was her ‘sense of reason’ and a dependable caregiver. Her grandmother “Ma” Rose truly knew her as one of the joys of her life, and uncles Bobby and Richie shared many special moments. She also conveyed her thoughts and feelings to her caregivers and extended family in her own unique ways. But it was her interactions with her mommy, who was her greatest source of comfort, and her daddy, who consoled and connected to her while dancing with her and holding her over his shoulder, that truly cheered and enriched her life. Everyone in this blessed family was so proud of their Lexy; she was an integral part of each day’s activities and was always surrounded by her loved ones. As a child, Alexis attended the United Cerebral Palsy Association in Barneveld and thereafter was enrolled in home schooling. When her sister Erica graduated in 2006, Alexis was bestowed an honorable mention. When she was able to, Lexy ate anything sweet, from cotton candy to chocolate pudding or frosting which was among her favorites. Her laughter and smiles were thrilling and exciting. Lexy blessed each day with an “Amazing Grace” for all who walked beside her on her path of life. Alexis is survived by her devoted parents, Philip and Mary Elena; her siblings, twin sister Loretta Ann Sinnott and fiancé David Plescia; brother Philip Sinnott II and Mary Ann Talento; and her sister Erica N. Sinnott. Alexis was unconditionally loved and cared for by her maternal grandmother, Rose “Ma” DeSantis. She also lives in the hearts of her uncles and aunts, Robert DeSantis, who was also her godfather; Richard DeSantis; John and Jane Sinnott; Kathy (her godmother) and Brian Mathews; Penny and Cail Burd; and her many great aunts, great uncles and cousins. The Sinnotts are blessed with an extended family consisting of the Bionelli’s: Steve and Debby, and their children; Derek and Nicole and their daughter, Keira; Greg and Liz; and Brett. These moral supporters have been there from day one and this ‘chosen family’ never missed an opportunity to be involved in loving Lexy. Thanks also to Alexah Christine Redmond who is 4 years old and who affectionately called Alexis “YaYa”- they had an inseparable and amazing bond which was so incredible and compelling to observe that it was clear that this relationship was heaven-sent. Alexis was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Richard DeSantis; paternal grandparents, John “Jack” and Eva Sinnott; maternal great-Nonnie, Elena “Lena” Carcone; and her great-great-aunt, Angie Pezzorello. The family accords many thanks to Dr. Toby Taylor and his staff who demonstrated the utmost professional and personal commitment to Alexis; her wonderful caregiver, Linda Reynolds; her teacher, Mary Belden; and the many people who helped in ways that were beyond the family’s expectations. This was a testament to how Alexis touched so many people in countless ways. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please refrain from floral offerings. Alexis’ funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Committal services will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery with entombment to follow.
