Mr. Alex R. Torres

Mr. Alex R. “Gejou” Torres, age 33, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on December 16, 1982, Alex was the son of Alexis Torres and Rochelle Torres. He attended Holy Trinity Grammar School and Hugh R. Jones Elementary School, and was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 2001. On June 5, 2009 he married the former Jessica Noga and to that relationship came two wonderful sons who Alex adored. They resided in Florida for several years, a time he truly enjoyed. In his youth, he worked for the law firm of Murad and Murad where he began to develop his business skills; and they treated him like family. Most currently, Alex was a co-owner of the “Just Right Brothers” Construction Company. Alex had all the attributes of a good salesman: he had a charming personality, was an engaging conversationalist, had an impeccable appearance, and a sense of humor. He successfully bought and sold high end cars for many years. He had all the attributes of a good person; he had a big heart, a generous, uplifting spirit, and a large repertoire of one-liners to make you laugh if you needed uplifting. He made an everlasting impression on whoever he met. He enjoyed the outdoors, the ocean, deep sea fishing, and jet skiing. One of his favorite pastimes was mastering video games. Music moved him and it was not unusual to hear it at a high volume, a good indicator that he was approaching. He was always well-groomed and took pride in his matching attire and trendy sneakers. Basketball was his favorite sport and he had fun playing it with his son and his friends. Most importantly, Alex had all the attributes of a great dad: he loved his sons, and was very active with them, entertained them, followed their sporting events, and was most proud of teaching them how to fish. Alex was most comfortable at his home parish of Historic Old St. John’s Church. His trust in the Lord sustained him in this life, and he knew he would someday see the glories of heaven where there would be no troubles or worries—- and he is at peace. Alex is survived by his wife, Jessica; his sons, Dominic Torres age 6, and Mason Torres age 3; his mom, Rochelle Torres; and his dad, Alexis Torres. He will remain in the hearts of his sisters and their loved ones, Candace and John Goff, Shante Torres and fiance Rosario Salvo, Ishauna and Carlos Sevilla, Alyssa Torres, Santia Torres and Soumbay Khiemdavanh, Jovonna Torres, Amanie, and Christianna Jadwick. Always close to his heart and soul was the memory of his brother, Aviano T. Torres, who preceded him in 2007. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Ruth Gaffey; paternal grandmother, Sobeida Rodriguez; his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws Tom and Lauri Noga; sister-in-law, Sarah Noga; and his longtime friend, Colin Olender. He was predeceased by his aunt, Crystal Gaffey; and his uncle, Ralph Gaffey. The family appreciates the kind and compassionate care provided by the staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center Intensive Care Unit; Alex’s cousin, Lakesha Gaffey/Respiratory Therapist; and Dr. Scott Brehaut for his professional expertise and gentle ways. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Alex’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will be held on Thursday morning at 10:30 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will follow graveside in Calvary Cemetery.
