Mr. Albert A. Astalfa

Mr. Albert A. Astalfa age 82, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 in the comfort of his home with the love and support of his family by his side. Born in Utica, NY on August 23,1927, he was the son of the late Angelo and Palma (Talarico) Astalfa. Mr. Astalfa was raised and educated in local schools. On April 23,1949 he joined the former Rose Marie Schnitt in the blessed union of marriage. He shared 56 devoted years with Rose Marie before her passing on January 10, 2006. Albert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and courageously fought in WWII. He later became involved in construction and was a member of the Local #35- Labor and Construction Workers. He worked through the union on the highway and construction, mainly as a foreman. Albert loved to dine out with his family for Friday fish fries and pasta. He loved his deserts; especially Grandma Sue’s apple pie and cookies. Mr. Astalfa was proud of his honorary membership with the Local #35 Whitestown V.F.W. / American Legion. He also had a special love for activities he shared with his “best friend” and son from an early age. They enjoyed fishing, bow and rifle hunting, and camping in Richfield and Brookfield. Albert also enjoyed cooking, gardening flowers and vegetables and “cutting everyone’s lawn.” Albert is survived by his son, Randy who shared a very special relationship with his father, and daughter-in-law- Joanne Astalfa of Marcy, NY; two wonderful grandchildren who were the light of his life and who gave him new meaning and purpose, Joseph Astalfa and Courtney Astalfa. Mr. Astalfa is survived by three sisters, Mary Ruffo, of California, Linda Triveri of Westmoreland, NY and Julia Spina of Utica, NY; his in-law, Nancy Astalfa; as well as his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mr. Astalfa was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Astalfa and Anthony Astalfa; and two sisters, Theresa Cognetti and Rose Barone, along with many cousins and friends. Mr. Astalfa also wanted to acknowledge his very special friends Mark Rossi, Elaine Bambury, Donna and Tony Zammiello and his dear neighbor, Helen. Gratitude is offered to the nurses and staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, ER and especially the 6th floor. A special thank you to Albert’s grandson, Joey, for his outstanding devotion and care that he provided to his grandfather throughout his illness. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 at the Eannace Funeral Home Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mr. Astalfa’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park with military honors.
