Mr. Samuel "Sam" Maggio

Mr. Sam “Skane” Maggio, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 27, 2016 in Maryland. Born in Utica on August 26, 1948, Sam was the son of the late Michele and Anna (Intino) Maggio. A straight-arrow and self-reliant young man he reached the highest level of achievement in scouting; an Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School and continued his education at McPhearson College. Later in life he met and devoted himself to his longtime fiancee Angie Rutkowski of Ocean City, Maryland. Besides Sam’s intense love of family and friends, he had a lifelong passion for music. As early as 8 years old Sam was involved with many school and local bands including the Magnificent Yankees Marching Band, the Gates Intino Trio, the Al Peluso Duo, and Target. Sam was also highly respected in his entrepreneurial life; he was owner/operator of Maggio’s Restaurant and Sam’s Café. He was involved with many local restaurants and clubs in Utica area including, Grimaldi’s Restaurant, and Lilly Langtree’s. After falling in love with the area when touring with the band Target, Sam relocated to Ocean City, Maryland in the late 1980’s and worked his way up to become the general manager of the Ocean Club. Sam is survived by his wife Angie; his step-children, Kimberly Rutkowski, and Jennifer Rutkowski and her wife Erin Redding; his granddaughters, Emily Strickland, Lilly, and Grace Mitchell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael A. and Paula Maggio of Utica, John A. and Billie Sue Briggs Maggio of Berlin MD, and Anthony M. and Jacqueline Maggio of Holland Patent. His extended family includes his nieces and nephews, twins Michael Maggio and fiancée Casey Lynn, and Paul and Charmaine Maggio, Marisa Maggio, BreeAnna Maggio, John Maggio; Kayla and Chris Robinson, Anthony, and Brandon Maggio, and Janelle and Tony DeBonzo; his great-nieces and a great-nephew Tala, Frankie, and Paisley; and his beloved uncle and friend, Mario Intino of Las Vegas NV; many cousins, godchildren, and multitude friends. Sam was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, John and Mary (Annese) Intino; paternal grandparents, Santo and Rose (Turi) Maggio; infant sister Rose Marie Maggio; and his sister-in-law, Lynn Maggio. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather on Tuesday, June 7 at Danielle at Valley View beginning at 5:00.
